Hi,

All steps that involve Excel are currently erroring in all my Zaps.

It's giving the error: The app returned "You do not have permissions to open this file in the browser.".

I've 'Tested' and 'Reconnected' Excel in Apps.

I've tried creating a new Zap with an Excel step (using both the existing and a newly added Excel connection) and it doesn't produce anything at the 'Worksheet' stage (having successfully selected a 'Spreadsheet').

It seems to be the same error detailed at https://community.zapier.com/troubleshooting-99/connecting-to-excel-is-giving-you-do-not-have-permissions-to-open-this-file-in-the-browser-32095

I've been in contact with Zapier help and they have only been able to suggest that I check the Share setting in Excel but all that seems to do is add an email got shared access or generate a share link a I don't see how that would help.

Any help with what to do to get this working would be appreciated :)

Jon

I did not have existing Zaps, but from a new Zap journey. I was able to resolve this error when I realized that you need ot be on Office 365 Business account vs a personal plan. Once I swapped to my business account this resolved the error!

Hope this helps someone, because it took hours away from me!

Hello, I have the same problem as of today. All my zaps connected to Microsoft Excel are not working anymore.

The app returned "You do not have permissions to open this file in the browser.".

Please help!

Hi @ken.a,
Pls add me to the open bug report. I have several Zaps that send data to Excel. Most of these Zaps have been working quite well for more than a year. As of May 3, 2024, all of my Zaps that send data to Excel stopped working, and started returning the same error message “Error: Excel Error: You do not have permissions to open this file in the browser.”
As a response, I’ve reconnected all related apps, and verified all permissions. I was somewhat under the impression that this was related to a recent Windows update that I ran, but after reading this forum I’m not so sure. Please Help!

Same, this just started happening to me as well 05/23/2024. No changes have been made to my Zapier or OneDrive account (unless M.Soft or Zapier made changes without acknowledging them). Have been unable to solve the error.

I have also reported multiple excel issues!  All stopped working in the last few weeks.  EVERYTHING EXCEL IS BROKEN.

I dont understand there is so many people with sudden issues, why is it not fixed yet.

Same issue for me:

Since Microsoft and Zapier have no solution for months!, I created my own: By using a new microsoft account, I could resolve this issue for all zaps.

A new Microsoft account ?  How do you mean.  My excel file is based in One Drive on my personal microsoft account.

Mine only stopped working at the end of May.

I created a new Microsoft account, copied my files in a new one drive and reconnected everything. Works fine.
