Objective: Send a message in slack everytime a task is transferred to a particular stage

Set-up:

Trigger: Asana - Updated task in project

Filter: Asana - Continue if section name exactly matches Approved

Action - Slack - send message

Challenge:  Trigger is not working. “

Your Zap would not have continued” error comes up during setup

Hey there @anonymous porcupine!

In the Zap editor, when you test a filter, the message “Your Zap would not have continued” means that the test data in the Zap doesn’t match the conditions of the filter.

If you look at the section name in the data that came in when you tested the Zap trigger, does it say ‘Approved’? If it doesn’t, that means that the filter is working as it should; it would have stopped the Zap if that task triggered the Zap.

You can learn more about how Filters work in this help doc. Section 3 in the guide shows what you’ll see when you test a filter step.

If you’re need a bit more help, could you share a screenshot of the filter step of the Zap, so we can see how it’s set up? Don’t forget to remove or obscure any personal or private information in any screenshot you share in the community (eg full name, email address, etc).

Unfortunately it still shows up under “Untitled section” despite trying to change the task

Hi @anonymous porcupine

Good question.

Here’s a help article about how to change your trigger test data to then test the Filter: https://zapier.com/help/create/basics/change-the-test-data-in-your-zap-trigger

The filter works BUT only when I add a task. it doesn’t work when i transfer tasks between stages.

@anonymous porcupine

If that’s the case, then perhaps try using a different Zap trigger.

A Tag could be used to indicate the Stages.

Perhaps explore using Asana Rules: https://asana.com/guide/help/premium/rules#gl-sections-rule

I’ve seen youtube videos where the same filter has worked and I have inputted the same settings. it worked for them. How would you recommend that I troubleshoot this?

@anonymous porcupine

Turn the Zap ON and test, then check your Zap Runs to see the DATA IN/OUT for each Zap step: https://zapier.com/app/get-help
