Issue with Call URL Field in Google Business Profile new post creation


Hello,

 

I encountered an issue while trying to automate the creation of posts on Google Business Profile through Zapier. Specifically, I used the “Create Post” action and set the CTA (call to action) button type to “Call”. In the Action Button URL field, I entered a phone number in the format:

tel:+48123456789

 

Unfortunately, this causes the Zap to fail with the following error message:

“Couldn’t create a post for this location: Request contains an invalid argument.”

 

When I asked for more details, I was informed that Google Business Profile might not support tel: links in this field and requires a URL starting with “http://” or “https://”. However, I was under the impression that using a phone number should work with the “Call” CTA type.

 

Could you please clarify if it is indeed possible to use a direct phone number with the “Call” action in Google Business Profile posts? If not, what would be the best workaround to provide a phone number as part of the call-to-action?

Thanks for the screenshots!

It looks like we need to left the “Action Button URL” field empty when we’re using the “CALL” option in the “Action Button Type” field.

Could you please try leaving the “Action Button URL” field empty and try testing the action step again?

I'll be keeping an eye out for your response!

Before we dig deeper into this, would you mind sharing a detailed screenshot of how your Zap is configured? Also, please share a screenshot of the “CONFIGURE” section of the Google Business Profile step that shows all of its fields.

Please don't include personal information in the screenshot, or be sure blur out any personal information.

Yes, leaving it empty is the solution! It still calls my company’s number that I’ve stated on my Google Business profile. Thanks a lot 😊 

 

I guess it would be reasonable to hide Action Button Url field when the Action Button Type is set to Call or alternatively set its default value to empty to avoid further confusion for other Zapier users.
