Error while hydrating data from Slack: Cannot convert undefined or null to object

I use Zapier to send filtered emails from Gmail and create channel messages in Slack. However, some of my Zaps have recently started failing with the following error:

“Failed to create a message in Slack. Error while hydrating data from Slack: Cannot convert undefined or null to object.”

These Zaps have been running normally for a long time but recently started failing and are even being automatically turned off by Zapier. I’m not sure what changed. However, when I test the Zap, messages still seem to be created in Slack, despite the error message appearing.

Does anyone have insights on what might be causing this or how to resolve it?

Hey @cd95051, welcome to the Community! 👋

I can confirm this is a bug that recently surfaced and it is actively being worked on. I’ve added you to the list of impacted user and you’ll be notified once a fix becomes available.

The good thing is that the action is executed successfully. In the meantime, to prevent your Zaps from being turned off automatically, I recommend changing the error ratio settings to “Keep running if errors occur”.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.

Hi @cd95051,

Welcome to the Community! ✨

I took a look and that error message “Cannot convert undefined or null to object” usually means that the previous step could not be processed in time for the action step to process. I can see that you also have an open support ticket about this, and they mentioned it may be related to a known bug. Could you confirm if the channel message is being sent to a private channel?

That will help us look into it a bit better and confirm if it’s related to that bug!

It was set up as “Send Channel Message”, but the channel is not a public channel in Slack.

We are also experiencing this failure as of last week. We have this problem on many Zaps that previously had no issues. Any Zap that posts to a Slack channel and also contains a file will give this error. The messages, however, are posted to Slack normally.

Please add me to the affected users.
