Question

Getting an error when creating a ticket with Zendesk from Typeform: This Zendesk step hit an error. The app returned "Access Denied"

Hello everyone, new o Zapier here.

I am adding a number of file URLs from Typeform entries to my Zendesk account, but for all file URLs I see the sae message: “No data on mapped value”. It’s strange because it previously worked but now it doesn’t so I can’t get the file URLs from Typeform.

Any ideas how to resolve this?

Hi @drandakis

For us to have more info, post screenshots showing how your Zap step is configured in the “CONFIGURE” tab.

Make sure you retest Zap step 1 to get a current data examples to use.

Hi thanks. My “First Comment/Description” field is a bit long, but here’s a part with the file urls.

@drandakis

Screenshots shows the mapped variables have a value of “No data” meaning the data from Zap step 1 for the mapped field variables was blank/empty/missing/null.

Make sure to test the Typeform again.

Make sure to test Zap step 1 again to pull thru current examples to use to configure and test your Zap step 2.

For live Zap Runs, check your history details to see the DATA IN/OUT for each step to help you troubleshoot: https://zapier.com/app/history/

I have no idea what step 1 is and what step 2. Maybe Zapier is not for me, I don’t know… It gives me error for some file uploads in Typeform, while in others it works just fine.

@drandakis

Zaps have Steps.

Step 1 is always the trigger step.

Steps 2+ are always action steps.

Zap steps are numbered. (e.g. 1, 2. 3, etc.)

Dynamic variables mapped between Zap steps are numbered and include the app icon to indicate the Zap step the variable originates from.

e.g. 1. means Zap step 1.

@drandakis

You can click on an individual Zap Run to see the details within for each Zap step, which shows tabs for these:

  • DATA IN
  • DATA OUT
  • LOGS
  • TROUBLESHOOTING

Screenshots shows the Zap steps.

  1. Trigger: Typeform - New Entry
  2. Action: Zendesk - Create Ticket

I’ve seen all that:
“The "Access Denied" error in your Zendesk step typically indicates an issue with authentication or permissions. First, ensure that the API token or credentials used in the Zap are correct and have the necessary permissions to create tickets in Zendesk. You can verify this by checking the connected account in Zapier under "My Apps" and re-authenticating if needed. Additionally, ensure that the user associated with the API token has the appropriate role and permissions in Zendesk to perform the actions specified in your Zap.

If the credentials are correct, check if there are any IP restrictions set in Zendesk that might be blocking Zapier's IP addresses. You can find Zapier's IP addresses in the Zapier help documentation and whitelist them in your Zendesk settings if necessary. Lastly, review any recent changes in your Zendesk account settings or user roles that might have affected access permissions. If the issue persists, consider reaching out to Zendesk support for further assistance.”

It;s typical and doesn’t help. My credentials are perfect as I am getting all other types of data. It’s only some file urls that result in error. None of this helps

OK I saw that. The question remains wide open. How do I troubleshoot this error? The error obviously shows it’s on the Zendesk side, can’t create the ticket.

I am properly submitting a Typeform, it gets properly recorded, and when I leave the a file upload field empty, it creates a Zendesk ticket just fine. But when it do fill the file upload field, then I get this error, and it’s impossible for me to fix.

Hi @drandakis,

Welcome to the Community.

The "Access Denied" error when connecting Zendesk to Typeform via Zapier points typically leads to a permissions issue. To troubleshoot, ensure API access is enabled in Zendesk, verify that your Zendesk account has sufficient permissions (not a restricted or light agent account), and try reconnecting Zendesk in Zapier.

Let us know if this helps you solve the issue. We'll be looking forward to your response.

HI @JammerS as I said, I do have proper permissions because all my forms go through and tickets are created in Zendesk just fine. The only exception is when my Typeform has a file upload field, and only when I upload a file and thry to pass the file’s URL into the ticket that’s being created, then I get the Zendesk error.

How can I find if this particular issue has permission restrictions?

Hi @drandakis,

I’m jumping in to see if I can help!

The issue here could be in the file itself. Could you please send a screenshot that shows your mapping in the “Attachments” field of the Zendesk action step?

I'll be keeping an eye out for your response!
