Create Google Doc From Template: The user does not have sufficient permissions for this file

I tried the steps above to change the permissions of the template and the folder where the template and cloned doc will be stored. However I still get the permission error even though the document is successfully created (see Loom video below). I also tried deselecting the doc and then reelecting it.

Is this a bug or is there something I can do?

To get this to work, I deleted the step and started again.

 

  • Make sure the “Template Document” you want to create other documents from is in the same folder that you want new documents to be created in i.e. the folder you use in the “Folder for new Document” field
  • For some reason only documents within the folder used for the “Folder for new Document” field are available for selection within the “Template Document” field

Once you have this prerequisite done then:

  1. Select the desired folder from the “Folder for new Document” field first
  2. Then select the desired template from the “Template Document” field
  3. Bingo Bango
