Is it possible to use zap to automate commenting on profiles Im following (IG) or reposting tagged content?

Im hoping to use zaps to increase andd automate my own engagement on socials but I'm not sure if this is possible, as I wasnt able to accomplish the desired actions when trying to build the zaps. Hopefully someone here can guide me.

The best example of my desired zap would be: a new post published by an Instagram account that Im following (and designated within the zap) triggers an automated comment from my account (eg 🔥🔥🔥).

If commenting on posts is not possible for zaps to accomplish, then is it possible for a new post published by an account that I designate to trigger my account reposting/sharing that post? sharing on instagram is limited to being shared on instagram stories, but would this be possible on Tumblr or Facebook or any other platform that has built in sharing/reposting?

Thank you so much!

Hi there,

Unfortunately, Zapier does not currently support automating comments on Instagram posts. Instagram’s API does not allow third-party tools like Zapier to post comments on behalf of users, even for business accounts. This is a limitation imposed by Instagram to prevent spam and maintain platform integrity.

Workaround:

  • Manual Engagement: While you can’t automate comments, you can use Zapier to notify you when a specific account posts new content. For example:

    • Set up a Zap with the trigger “New Media Posted in my Account” (for Instagram Business accounts).

    • Use an action like “Send Email” or “Send Slack Notification” to alert you when the account posts. You can then manually comment on the post.

Reposting tagged content is possible, but with some limitations. Instagram’s API does not allow direct reposting of posts to your feed, but you can share posts to your Instagram Stories if you’re tagged in them12.

Steps to Repost Tagged Content to Instagram Stories:

  1. Trigger: Use the “New Tagged Media” trigger in Zapier (available for Instagram Business accounts).

  2. Action: Use the “Create Story” action to share the tagged media to your Instagram Stories.

    • Note: This only works for Instagram Business accounts and requires proper authentication.

Reposting to Other Platforms:

If you want to repost Instagram content to other platforms like Tumblr or Facebook, Zapier can help:

  • Trigger: Use the “New Media Posted in my Account” or “New Tagged Media” trigger.

  • Action: Use the appropriate action for the target platform (e.g., “Create Post” for Facebook or “Create Tumblr Post”).

Thank you very much for this thorough and thoughtful response.

So youre saying Zapier cant automate commenting onto other accounts, and doing so is against Instagrams terms, so any option that does exist would not be a legitimate one?

Its good to know Zapier can automate reposting content to stories, if you are tagged in the post.

As for reposting on other platforms, to clarify, I was asking if Zapier would allow for the automating of reposting content natively published on the platform. Eg could zapier automate sharing a facebook post to the timeline of a Facebook Page? (or the reposting of a Tumblr post, or the crossposting of a reddit post)?

Thanks again for your helpful response!

Hi @Jews4Hamas,

Welcome to the Community.

Automating comments on other Instagram accounts violates its terms of service, and Zapier adheres to these rules to avoid account risks. However, depending on API limitations, Zapier can automate reposting content from platforms like Facebook, Tumblr, or Reddit. For example, Facebook allows triggering new posts to be shared, Tumblr supports creating posts on another blog, and Reddit has more restrictions on crossposting. Complying with each platform's rules is essential when setting up Zaps.

I hope this helps. If you have any more questions or need further clarification, feel free to ask.
