How to simplify Google Sheets row lookup in a Zapier workflow

Forum|alt.badge.img

I have a process that:

  1. a Zap starts based on a trigger
  2. a google sheet row is found (i.e. lookup zap) based on an email address entered in the trigger event (#1)
  3. the google sheet row is updated with trigger event data;  the google sheet row has a formula in it the calculates a “number of days between two dates”, which is impacted by the trigger event’s date
  4. do another google sheet “lookup” to get that calcuated value
  5. use that calculated value in additional zap steps

Step #4 seems unnecessary.  Is there any way to get rid of step #4 (the 2nd lookup) in its current form as I already have the row # (step #2).  I cannot figure out how to use a Row# in the lookup field of the google lookup zap task.  The process works, but it feels bulky to me having to do the 2nd lookup.

I hope the above makes sense.  Any help/thoughts is appreciated.

Hi there @promctllc,

Unfortunately, the current Lookup Spreadsheet Row action doesn’t support finding by Row ID. However, we have an existing feature request for this exact functionality. I have added you to the feature request. That does a few things:

  • Bring this to the attention of the integration developers
  • Help track interest in this feature being implemented
  • Allows us to notify you via email if this feature becomes available in the future

While I don't have an ETA on when this feature might be implemented, we will notify you via email if it is!

Hopefully, this helps.

Maybe my question needs a bit of clarification…the 1st lookup (step #2) uses an email address to find the customer I need.  I’d like to do the 2nd lookup (step #4) using the Row# or RowID from step #2 without having to do another lookup using the email address.

In the end, either way works, I suppose.  But I’m just thinking the 2nd lookup with the email address takes more time/computing resources.
