How to update Google Sheets when contact opens/responds to HubSpot email (New Activity)?

I’m trying to connect my Hubspot to Google Sheets. What I’m trying to have happen is:

  1. Sales email is sent to contact in Hubspot (individual emails, not mass marketing emails)
  2. Google Sheet creates new row with contact info

I’d also like to create another zap that:

  1. When the contact opens the sales email (this is updated under Activity in Hubspot) or responds, then
  2. Google Sheet has individual cells updated

I’m having trouble finding which trigger in Hubspot is the right one. When I pick email event, it says it can’t find anything even though we send 5-10 emails per day, so I believe it’s trying to pull the marketing email data, not the sales email.

I’d appreciate any thoughts and tips you have!

Hi @fundingforsocialchange did you ever get an answer for this? I’m struggling with nearly the exact same thing.

This issue specifically ^^^. If your hypothesis is correct, they REALLY need to make that more clear on Zapier. Thanks for any help you can provide!

Hi there, @BT-CK. Thanks so much for reaching out and sharing your thoughts. I wanted to share some of what my teammate Eliza referenced in their email with fundingforsocialchange in case it could be of use to you!

I'm afraid that the New Email Event Trigger works only for Marketing Campaigns at the moment. I've created a feature request to trigger on other email types as well and I've added your vote as an interested user which will do a few things:
- Raises the issue with the Product team over at HubSpot who owns and manages the integration on our platform
- Adds weight to the request (the more "votes" we get the better)
- Allows us to reach out to you immediately if the functionality becomes available

I’ve also added your vote to this request as well! We’ll be sure to send you an email and update the thread if and when we know more.

In the meantime, one work around another teammate offered was:

Reviewing the triggers available for HubSpot, if you're able to create a new Contact, or add an existing Contact to a List at the same time your sales email is sent, that should let you trigger a Zap with their information:

From there, you could use the Google Sheets "Create Spreadsheet Row" action to send the information to your spreadsheet.
